So what is PODCASTING?
It's like a radio interview, but on the Internet! You use the Internet to make digital recordings of broadcasts available for downloading to a computer or mobile device.
A PODCAST channel usually features a series of episodes with one or more recurring hosts engaged in an interview-style discussion. The now infamous buzzword PODCAST was born from combining the words iPod and Broadcast.
Discussions about a particular topic or current event can range from carefully scripted to completely impromptu. And the benefit for the PODCAST listener is that most PODCASTS are FREE, and they can listen at a time and place of their choosing.
Many podcast series provides an associated website with links and show notes, guest biographies, transcripts, additional resources, commentary, and even a community forum dedicated to discussing the show's content. Podcasting gives you all the power of radio – intimacy, immediacy, engagement and authenticity – without the enormous investment that comes with marketing and advertising your business on the radio.
Where do Listeners access Podcasts?
The most popular PODCAST hosting platforms are Apple and Google Podcasts, with Spotify, Audible, Podbean, Stitcher and TuneIn Radio gaining subscribers at an accelerated rate. Anyone with a mobile device has quick access to over 2 Million shows worldwide. According to the Reuters Institute Digital News Report, more than 475 million people are actively listening to podcasts around the world.
But how many people listen to PODCAST in SOUTH AFRICA?
A 2018-2019 study by the National Small Business Chamber found the addressable market for podcasting in South Africa to be 16-million people.
Podcasting allows you to engage consistently with a qualified audience who are keen to hear from you. It is also making a real comeback thanks to increasingly sophisticated mobile devices and cheaper data costs.
A lot of people are struggling to attract new customers in an overcrowded marketplace. Podcasting is a great way to deliver high-quality content to a qualified and engaged audience.
