With Willem Gous — Entrepreneur, Coach, Business Strategist
In short
Willem Gous makes the case that goals only work when they start with the person, not the business, and when they are broken into 90-day plans with daily actions and weekly review. Practical detail on accountability as understanding rather than nagging, blocking two productive hours a day, Parkinson's law, the Pomodoro technique and the be-do-have sequence.
Why do most people fail to make progress on their goals year after year?
Because they want something different without doing anything different. Gous points to businesses hiring five to nine people a month and two friends who built businesses employing 15-plus people in two years; asked what they did differently, they said they pick up the phone and take action. Others say they want more business but have no time.
Isn't an accountability buddy just someone nagging you?
No — accountability is internal, and the conversation is about understanding, not shaming. Gous describes questioning a partner's numbers: a one-in-three closing ratio meant 15 meetings a week plus 20 calls, about five hours a day. When someone misses their target, the question is what stood in the way, then unpacking it.
Where should goal setting actually start?
With yourself, not the business. Entrepreneurs default to growth, customers and profit without context — some work weekends to deliver a job and take no extra salary. Gous holds a vision for the year, then three purely monetary business goals that fund it, because work is the enabler of the goals.
Do goals really all come down to money?
Yes, in the sense that cash flow underpins them. Gous quotes a mentor: money isn't everything, it is everything. Wanting more time with the children takes money because you are not earning; feeding children in Africa, more time at church or in nature all need cash, so someone or something must fill the gap.
How far ahead should goals be planned?
A vision for the year broken into quarterly goals, revisited weekly and reviewed daily. Twelve months feels too far away to generate any excitement, whereas 90 days keeps it real. Gous compares it to weekly automatic savings payments: more frequent, more real, and missing one or two does not sink the ship.
How do you find time for goal work when other people own your diary?
By scheduling meetings with yourself and defending them. Gous notes people rarely miss business meetings but let their own commitments slip. He blocks five to six each morning and plans two productive hours a day, citing Parkinson's law — work expands to fill the time allocated — and now runs 30-minute meetings instead of an hour.
What is the Pomodoro technique and how does he use it?
A timed focus method named after the Italian for tomato, referring to an unpausable kitchen timer, developed by a student. Gous sets 25-minute blocks for one task — writing an article, or messaging across email, WhatsApp and LinkedIn — then breaks. He used it to get through more than 800 hours of research for his master's dissertation.
Why isn't wanting the outcome enough?
Because having follows being and doing. Gous says diet programmes have a one per cent success rate because people want the thinner body but skip becoming a thin person and doing what one does. To have ten million in the bank, think about a hundred rand the way someone who has it does.
Who does Gous work with, and how?
Mainly entrepreneurs who have plateaued after years of the same life, plus individuals shaping careers and groups. He started with a French business owner in December, has spoken to a group of nurses working as freelancers, runs a free event in Rivonia, and breaks work down into business model, strategy and financial plan.
In their words
accountability is not shouting and shaming, it's understanding and creating a different perspective
if your career or your business cannot provide the money for your goals then you will not reach them
Parkinson's law states that work will expand to full the time allocated
it's a long game. People overestimate the short term and underestimate the long term.
Key takeaways
- Wanting a different result requires doing differently and, ultimately, becoming a different person.
- Accountability works as a conversation that unpacks obstacles, not as external shaming.
- Annual visions should be broken into quarterly goals, reviewed weekly and checked daily.
- Because work funds everything else, goals have to be built around the person first and the business second.
- Protecting a small block of focused time each day beats promising eight productive hours.

Frequently asked questions
What does the free mind map contain?
A step-by-step version of the whole goal-setting process discussed on air, sent as a PDF by email with no subscription or hoops. Gous suggests printing it out, sticking it on the table and starting the process.
How much does waking early actually add up to?
Gous rises no later than four, seven days a week, and does focused personal development and work with no email or social media. Over 365 days he calculates that this amounts to 93 working days of eight to five — roughly three extra months a year.
What is his view on flow?
Flow comes from hyper focus, not from drifting. He describes driving at night in the rain, where his heart rate drops to around 70 to 75 and he enters that state, and says the same happens in work as the practice builds.
What single question does he suggest asking daily?
What are the three things I need to do today to move one step closer to my goals. Doing that daily and moving an inch compounds, because people overestimate the short term and underestimate the long term.
How long should someone expect a cash flow problem to take to fix?
At least 90 days, on his and the host's experience. Problems are not solved in a week; the advice is to warn the bank manager, then focus on the three things you can do when your energy is best.

Monday night first one of the year it is what's involved so good to have you with us. I hope you had a good time over December some great holidays so those of you didn't go away you may have heard me standing in for Tony during the course of December but this is my first official show of this year and it's so good to have you with us. I don't know how was your 2019? I think one of the posts I made on Facebook was most apt to describe my 2019 and it is 2019 was like but did you die? And no I didn't so there we go. Do I have New Year's resolutions? No I don't believe in those anymore because most of them get broken by like I don't know but this time really so but I thought how are we going to start this year? What are we going to do? Who are we going to talk to? I mean the show's grown a lot like a whole lot and I'm very very grateful for that. The YouTube, YouTube listen to me see I'm thinking ahead of myself. The podcasts are getting incredible downloads and thank you. If you are listening please get onto iTunes and look up what's involved and you know just subscribe they download all the podcasts. We've got about 70 odd episodes so far and we're going to be doing a whole bunch more this year of course. I'm also going to be branching out into one or two other things. I'll tell you about that but let's get on to my special guest for this evening and why I thought it would be appropriate. Now he started his entrepreneurial career more than 20 years ago. He's currently involved in three businesses Inside Risk and Immersive Leadership Development which teaches the leaders of companies like Ebass and Nestle, name dropper, how to lead in high stakes environments, venture designers takes innovation out of the boardroom and into the economy. He helps companies innovate their products and services while capacitating their staff to do work to do the work when they leave. Lastly is the human entrepreneur. I think this is my favorite part. He works to keep entrepreneurs in the game. He starts with the entrepreneur first and builds the business around their needs and goals. He is none other than Willem Hose. Hello Willem. Hi good evening thank you. And the crowd went hello. So good to have you here. Thank you. Thank you for having me and a happy new year.
May it be a 20-plenty to you and all the listeners out there. Everybody, I say everybody, a lot of people are very positive about 2020 but I would say there's a fair amount that are going and it's kind of doom and gloom and that's the reason I thought we'd have a chat to you. I mean the last year when we chatted it was a good few months ago. I've been thinking when did I actually, it was like what winter wasn't it? Yeah it was winter. Yeah. I don't remember that. Time flies when you're having fun but I thought okay let's talk about something fun and interesting and interestingly enough you got hold of me and you said how about this and I thought brilliant we're going to talk goal setting and you and I sort of just now when we're chatting off here I was like we may have some disagreements about this goal setting thing and you were like fine bring it on which I like. Yeah. It's just you know I've read so many books on goal setting and I've never ever gotten it right. If I look back at my goals and I look back at what I actually accomplished there's nothing like what my goals were. Sometimes I kind of destroy it other times I go in totally different directions and sometimes I don't even get close. Yes. So maybe you can teach me something as well tonight.
Great. You know what it's you you've reflected back on 2019 and in the innovation business and the entrepreneur business I deal with a lot of other businesses and I work with quite a few companies that go like we have to hire between five and nine new people per month just to stay ahead. Our business is growing and I have two friends they both built the one built two businesses the other one only one both businesses in two years employing 15 plus people and I ask all of them what are you doing differently and they said we pick up the phone and we take action. We have actions that we do and it's interesting on my goals my actions are laid out for the next 90 days. Every day I know what I need to do to achieve my goals for the first quarter ahead of time 90 days. I know what I need to do and I have an accountability buddy but you know how long it took me to get somebody to work with me on this because everybody goes like oh I want more business this year and I go like well do this work with me and I don't have time I don't have this so people want something different but they're not prepared to do something different that's that's the key thing to have something different you have to do something different. Yes I would agree because I've got a very good friend of mine and we've been we've been made since since sort of the beginning of high school and and he's talked to me about this accountability and we'll we'll get together on a Monday and we'll we'll have a call or we'll we'll do a Skype or whatever and then we'll discuss and I think we managed to get it right twice in a row okay but then nothing I mean it just it just all falls down and also I don't know if it's me that's the weirdo or if it's entrepreneurs in general but the whole idea of having this accountability buddy to me feels like somebody's going to nag at me and I'm going to slap them upside the head. Well that's when you see accountability as an external thing accountability is an internal thing so what I always tell people and also say to my accountability buddy everything that you do here leads to a conversation it's it's not this is wrong that is right purely because like on one of these goals he said he wants to sell x amount of this and I said well what's your closing ratio and he said one and three and then I said well that would mean you need to do 15 meetings per week of an hour each that is three hours a day plus you need to make 20 phone calls and that's that's another two hours that's five hours of your day yeah is that going to work now I would love to say no but the point is you have to go and do it and see what works and what doesn't work and most people review this maybe once a month once every two months I'm on you every day you review this stuff daily and weekly so it leads to a conversation so the accountability is not me shouting at you David you've been a bad sheep you know yeah you said you were going to make 15 phone calls last week and you made two so now I'm gonna go like you said you're gonna do this what happened what what was what was what stood in your way and we unpack that and and help to find a way to get there and and what's blocking you because it's a you need understanding accountability is not shouting and shaming it's understanding and creating a different perspective now you talk a lot about about the corporate world about corporate clients what about every day people solarpreneur small business owners people like me I mean goal setting as I said I've read the books and you kind of do this and then you you write down all of these wonderful things the one thing we did agree on before going on air yeah was to achieve a lot of these wonderful goals you need one thing yeah cash oh absolutely cash cash is everything my my one mentor an indian gentleman said villain money isn't everything it is everything hmm yeah it's true well I mean yeah if I look at a lot of the stuff I'd like to do which I'd like to sit down as goals can take money gonna take money to do that I want to add to that people go like yeah but I want more time with my kids yeah that takes money yeah because if you're not working you're not possibly earning if you're a consultant so who's going to fill that in so you need to make money make more money get another resource in whatever the case may be but it boils down to money if you want to feed the kids in africa it takes money you want to spend more time at your church or in nature it takes money so everything needs to boil down cash flow all right so where do we start with this goal setting thing because yeah there's simple ways of doing it there's ways that don't but a lot of time you suffer from overwhelm because somebody says too well sit down and figure out your life you need to get a three month six month twelve month twenty four month sixty month plan and you're going I don't even know what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow morning okay now I'm glad you're asking that it always starts with yourself it sounds like yeah but that's normal but no it's not not for an entrepreneur entrepreneurs usually start how will I grow the business how will I get more customers how okay cool but what's the context around that no no it's more profit okay what's the context of that more profit to make more money because so many entrepreneurs told me you know we worked right through the weekend to deliver this job to get this money okay did you get a bigger salary no I didn't so why did you do the work so the point there is it starts with you if you're in a career if you're an entrepreneur what do you want okay because your work and your business is the enabler of your goals that is the thing that gives you the cash if you if your work if your career or your business cannot provide the money for your goals then you will not reach them so that's how I as an entrepreneur so I have a vision for the year that I want to achieve I'm gonna do and it's a handful of things but it's it's a beautiful vision for the for the year and that's nice and that stands there but for me to have that I have three goals of my business that I need and I'm only chasing three goals that's it three goals and it's all monetary in my business I need to make this cash to do that in my vision to do that in my vision and this in my vision okay now the good news here is is that you've been kind enough you can check out his website vellumhost.com which is w-i-l-l-e-m-g-o-u-s so that's vellumhost.com or you can email him [email protected] you have put together for the listeners a mind map of this whole goal-setting process that you've got everything that we discussed tonight the points that we make is in one nice full step mind map that you can email me yeah and I'll reply back you don't have to subscribe to anything you don't have to jump through hoops just drop me a mail and say can I have the pdf and I got a shot here's the pdf you can print it out stick it onto your table and start the process that's great I mean that's some some good value so thank you for that we do appreciate it okay so start with yourself and so take us through where do I start what do I do okay so it let me start with a quote by Jim Rohn if you don't have a life plan chances are you'll fall into somebody else's and get guess what they've planned for you not much yeah so wherever you don't empower yourself in your life somebody else will overpower you so look at the different areas of your life the financial side your career your mental development your family your physical body your social life your your spiritual life and ask yourself what do I want in that you know what do I want to to be do or have in those areas so this is very much a be do have kind of scenario that you're looking at absolutely so those are what do I want to be let's let's look at look at the at family I want to be a better dad what do I want to do I want to my son and I have a road trip every year in August so I want to take him overseas this year so that's what I want to to to to do with him what do I want to have is just a better relationship with my son so think about how you're going to do that that that's part of my vision that I have in that fantastic stuff my special guest in studio entrepreneur business owner deep thinker it is Willem Rocha will be back with some more info talking a little bit more about goal setting in just a bit a reminder coming up between eight and nine tonight I have got the Daniela Bacelli I hope I got that right because it's been a while since I've spoken to Daniela and I don't know if she pronounces it any other way but I like to add a little bit of I don't know Italian flair to it so Daniela is going to be on air with me between eight and nine and man has she got a great story so a lot still to come we'll be back with more of Willem Rocha if you'd like to ask any questions if you'd like to contribute we'd love to hear from you you can SMS us at 41348 those SMSes charge at 150 otherwise whatsapp us 0848220938 it is what's involved on mix happily send you that mind map it's something that he put together especially for the show and for listeners of the show so you're more than welcome to do that any other questions comments love to hear from you whatsapp 0848220938 or you can SMS us on 41348 SMS charged at 150 back with you Willem okay so in this goal setting process how how far ahead do you just do your goals like for the year and then work backwards or do you have an ultimate outcome because I believe in well-formed outcomes as opposed to I'm going to set goals that says by this date I am going to own a Ferrari um you know that doesn't always work for me well never works because we are now you might look at it and go like nah it doesn't feel real yeah so um I have a greater vision of my life and I have great outcomes that I want for my life but I'm also uh very aware that too much focus might withhold great opportunities of coming into your field of view it's that that type of thing uh how can you receive if you clinch with the clenched first yeah you're so tightly in control how can you receive something else so I'm well aware of that but I like to focus I have my idea what I want to achieve for the year but I break it down into quarterly goals not uh not 12 months because 12 months is so far away you know I'm not excited now for new year's eve this year you know as great as the party might be I'm not excited about that but I'm nervous as hell and excited about the stuff that it's going to happen not next month then month thereafter yeah that's three months that's the first quarter is gone and like that in a blink of an eye 90 days so it keeps it real and that's why I I revisit I re-look and readjust every week instead of every month every week yeah bring things down to a week I like to say 52 times a year so every week I have automatic uh uh payments going off into savings account yeah because it it makes it more real and even if you miss one or two it doesn't kill the ship and the same here you'll mourn control if you do it weekly and in in fact I have a daily accountability meeting around my goals that I do so in other words every day you go okay this is what I wanted to do today did I do it did I not yeah if not why not if not why not and what do I need to to make happen today to move the needle and if it and if it's something like uh send a newsletter to a thousand people advertising my new product that won't move the needle yeah picking up the phone calling five people for a meeting now that will move the needle because you and sales as well yeah sales and marketing is not the same thing well how many people think it is yeah I worked with a guy for a for a little while um and in his mind sales and marketing exactly the same thing and you could you could talk yourself blue in the face you don't care no it's different genders completely yeah it's a different species altogether so I like to focus on on the things that that bring in the results yeah again now now so so we're talking about and this is sort of the second part that we're going to get into you mentioned things like time attention energy talk to me about that so basically I have to start with yourself then you look at what it takes to do this and then you have to look at the third step is the actions that you need to take in order to achieve that and then lastly is your accountability so if you look at that the basis of this is is just the management of your time your attention and energy if I ask you have you ever missed or do you miss business meetings regularly no never okay do you miss appointments and dates and dinners with family and your kids and possibly that thing that you want to do on a Saturday it's so easy to let slip on our own things you see there yeah there there would I would say yeah sometimes I'm just like yeah this is there but when it comes to other people's taking claim on our time yeah we give it to them and we we make sure they get it yeah but when it comes to ourselves we're like nah so you're a bit of an ass to yourself if I I'm allowed to use that word absolutely but uh and that's the key thing so I schedule meetings with myself so this time in the morning I do this every morning between five o'clock and six o'clock this is the work that I do to achieve these goals and it's clear nobody's going to stuff around with that so you you have to block the time off to do that because I don't know if you're familiar with Parkinson's law so Parkinson's law states that work will expand to full the time allocated this yeah now I got it yeah and everybody says you want something done give it to a busy person why because there's so little time they fit it into it but if you have the whole day to achieve something you know you barely finish it so that's one thing I started doing is having 30 minute meetings instead of one hour meetings you still get the same work done but it's it's you you only give it so much time so if you don't frame things within a specific time then you're stuffed so all of my goal actions I plan to do in two hours a day so I plan for two productive hours a day around us that's all don't tell me now I'm going to be productive for eight hours see now this is making more sense to me because I've got I've got a friend who has literally sort of and yes very very successful but but goal setting to I think the nth degree like wakes up at this time every single but like down to you know between seven and seven fifteen it's time for a toilet break you know cup of tea and he packs like eight ten hours of this kind of stuff in but incredibly regimented like breakfast every morning has to happen at six thirty it will be oats with a swirl of honey and I look at all of that and think if you put that kind of restrictions on me I'm gonna go nuts because I like to think of myself as a creative you know that's that's weirdo creative types so I like need freedom and stuff but there's got to be a balance you know what I've I've met and I know personally some people like that yeah but most of the time they've been at that for 10 20 30 years it's not that they woke up one morning and they start doing that you know it's it's it's a long process where they slowly hand it over parts of their life to other people so what they do is just exactly what they want to do and it takes time and you and just like knowing what food you like you have to go and taste everything and that that is part of that journey although I get up four o'clock no later than four o'clock seven days a week I start every day the same way and to be fair so do I yeah and I have a I meditate I do my morning procedure I do my personal development five o'clock I have breakfast and I rock on the day and I start but it's about managing your time and intention and energy my best focus is in the morning many people don't others are late at night but you know this is very fascinating because there's a lot of research that is now sort of coming out that is supporting that whole you know the old saying the early bird catches the worm etc etc that you are in fact more productive if you get up that hour or half an hour even earlier in the morning now if I have a look at people that I know when I told them I get up between hopelessly and for every single morning they're like are you insane yes do you worship something yeah like what the hell are you doing awake at the but by the same token generally generally by nine o'clock at night I'm lights out game over thank you for playing yeah I got to bed at 10 I'm sitting here with three and a half hours of sleep so I don't sleep much anyway so I'm fine with that but to to put waking up early into perspective so you and I get up basically two hours before most other people yeah and I do very focused work so it's not flip-flopping around I don't check email I don't check messages I don't facebook whatsapp this is focused personal development work and focused work and learning that because I do it seven days a week if you add that up over 365 days it amounts to 93 working days of eight to five okay 93 so I kick ass compared to somebody else by three months three months in a year I dedicate to getting my stuff focused and my stuff sorted who do you think is going to win this game good point good point I like I like the self-development stuff because that's that's sort of although to be fair we have you know fired off the odd early morning email to one another because I think we both know that both of us are awake at that time but you know sometimes accidentally I used to do that like this morning I was up at half past two already and I I remembered I need to do that meeting and I watch out the guy you're like oh maybe I shouldn't do that I've done that and I've got some I've got some rather strongly worded messages back at me when I've done some but yeah for me as well for me that is my most productive time because I find my energy starts to kind of dwindle by about 11 o'clock then I start to kind of and wind down so I need to get as much done as I can in the earlier part of the day I see then I go for about 10 15 minute meditation and I'm eight foot away again yeah that that's a very good one just a classic focus in your breath meditation do 10 15 minutes man it's like a nap and you're fine see that is one thing and I'm going to tell you this now if you haven't done it yet or you think it's too difficult meditation I use I use meditation to obviously to clear my mind get me focusing everything but I use it a lot for pain control because of the neuropathy I have from my diabetes and I promise you if I skip out I know and also if I don't do my meditation it just something feels off during the course of the day one guy once commented they said it reduces my urge to want to kill while in Joburg then everybody needs to yes Joburg meditate uh and taxi drivers this one's especially for you as well so it's how you manage your time so you do your focus do you block out time into what half an hour segments I block an hour but I'm a big fan of the Pomodoro technique I use that successfully to burn through the more than 800 hours of research I had to do for my dissertation for my master's degree I don't know if you're familiar with the Pomodoro technique so Pomodoro is Italian for tomato yes it was developed by a student and the tomato refers to a kitchen timer a kitchen timer you can set you can't pause it like an electronic thing so what you do there is and you can set the intervals these are just rough guides so you can set one tomato 25 minutes and you focus you say for the next 25 minutes I'm going to write this article or for the next 25 minutes I'm going to do messaging that could include email whatsapp's facebooky things and linkedin messaging yeah and you only do that and at the end of that 25 minutes the long goes off you you go tinkle you get a cup of coffee you sit down you start the next 25 minutes in next 25 minutes next now I have that down to 15 minutes because I write fast I can write 2,000 words in in an hour holy guacamole so uh for me 25 minutes off one moment let's just end this task so then I can do four of these roughly in in in an hour wow okay but that's not that that's that's your your attention your focus yeah because you have to understand many speakers have spoken about are you in flow you need to be in flow yes the flow state yeah you achieve flow through hyper focus not by thinking of freaking unicorns you need to be hyper focused and that's when the flow comes I found uh my heart rate when I I drive at night and it's raining and it's and I really have to be hyper focused my heart rate drops to about 75 70 and I'm just in a absolutely flow state in that zone in that zone I still want to go and do a lap at kai lami in that that flow state and see what it does and the same thing with work once I'm in that zone um and as you go through this process that that will happen more and more but you need to block the time watch watch for Parkinson's law and be aware of when you focused the if it's at night do it at night if it's lunch just do it own it and live by it but now if you're working okay let's say you've got a normal nine to five job yes um where would you then find time to fit this in because a lot of people go it's okay for you to say get up at four o'clock in the morning I work from nine to five I mean sort of I think entrepreneurs kind of work like all the time anyway but um when did we stop yeah how would you how would you now I'm glad you bring in and and and I want to go back to the Pomodoro thing okay let's get back to in minutes let's get back to that though um when we come back my special guest in studio Willem Gose don't forget if you'd like to get that mind map I've had a look at it I've also asked for a copy by the way um and I started off my discussion with Willem tonight saying I'm opposed to goal setting I prefer well-formed outcomes but I want to have a look at it uh you can get a copy info at Willem Gose.com is the email address just go hi Willem heard you on the radio last night we'd love to get a copy of that mind map he'll send you the pdf free of charge there's there's no this is not clickbait this is not lead magnets nothing like that he's doing it because he wanted to give something back to our listeners today it is what's involved this monday night my special guest Willem Gose we're wrapping it up with him uh Daniela is up next man she's got a lovely story we're gonna we're gonna have so much fun what we've had so much fun in this hour as well I can't believe it's almost up so in terms of this goal setting process we've now spoken about managing your time your attention your energy um we touched on this earlier on though this do we have um you said you wanted to chat a bit more about it but from another kind of angle so most people go you know uh even the the Weight Watchers has a one percent success rate when it comes to to diet programs all around the world diet programs have a one percent success rate because everybody wants to have a thinner body they just want to have but they forget the previous two steps do have in order for me to have I have to be that person do what that so I have to be a thin person do what a thin person does guess what I'm going to be a thin person so let me ask you this do you have 10 million bucks cash in the bank not as we speak no I'm sure a lot of uh listeners would go like I can do with that you know give me a 10 more so go and look at a guy who has 10 million bucks in the in the bank yeah when you give him a hundred round what does he think about how does he think about that hundred round and then secondly see what he does with that hundred round well he probably doesn't spend it I'm guessing okay so then you start thinking about money like he does and he start doing with your money like he does guess what you're gonna have in your bank account soon you're going to have the opposite of my problem yes which is too much month at the end of my money okay cool and that's the whole thing you have to to become that person that has that and a lot of people miss that so if I want to I want to build a business with 30 people in it and they all answer to me I need to become a better leader you don't just get true I need to become a better leader so what do I do I join toastmasters and I learn to speak and communicate better and I learn to become a better leader that's one thing that I can do around that so when you look at your goals what you want to become what you want to do and what you have ask yourself what person do I have to become in order to achieve that because to quote from what I said in the beginning to have something different you have to do something different true and then to have something different you have to become somebody something different and that is a big challenge that's why accountability and having somebody who walks this path with you is so important because most people go into this goal-setting thing with the same thinking same doing that they had in 2019 and then they complained at the end of 2020 that they had another 2019 sounds like my own words are coming back to want me yes it does I'm just here like David I'm here to speak to you the voice of Christmas past what was that story anyway but now what aside from this and aside from the importance of goal-setting and I like the fact that that we've chatted about this tonight and and you know I as I said I last interviewed you winter last year you're looking like a million bucks at the beginning of this year I mean fit healthy we'll get you everywhere you know sparkle in the eye the whole lot um what do you offer service wise let's say somebody's listening now and you know do you specialize in entrepreneurs or man in the street you know I mean I I guess that there must be a certain focus to your business businesses yes so uh entrepreneurs usually uh that's been in the game for a for a long time that hit that plateau that go like you know I'm having the same life year after year after year things need to change yeah so December I started working with a new business owner in France helping them taking them through this process what do you want to be what do you want to be you have shape your goals and then shape your business around that goal you can do the same with your career because then it it will frame the conversation that you're going to have at the workplace I need to have this I need to get this salary and if the business goes we can't give this to you what's the process that you're going to go and find that so individuals people who start businesses who want to explore different areas in their life but also I like to work with established business owners because usually they're in the same routine now for 10 years and go like this ain't working my wife's about to divorce me my kids hate me and I can't see my feet because I'm unhealthy yeah yeah so I like that so what I do here is then I take it one notch up like I showed you my spreadsheet yeah where I have every action mapped out and planned for the next 90 days for the next 12 weeks that I have with that so you would take an entrepreneur through that goal setting process and then through that mapping out of your daily action yeah what daily to do is action list whatever you want to shape the business and we break it down to a business model strategy and financial plan because it needs to form part of your strategy okay yeah do you do any sort of group work I mean if somebody wants to to come and attend I don't know I'm just thinking you know uh something like this goal setting you know if I'm not an entrepreneur if I don't have the money to to deal with you one-on-one I mean have you ever thought about that after the last interview quite a few people reached out and they organized groups to say well can you come and have that same talk to the group yeah and that was quite nice so one was a group of nurses really yeah and that was nice and they go like well we're all struggling with this how should we build our nursing businesses because we're all in inverted commas freelancers so I spoke to them on a Saturday morning like look at this and and a few of them started working with me but still uh many of them have spoken afterwards and said I changed this and this immediately after that talk and it has had such an impact on it and I love doing that so group work uh I I every second like this coming Tuesday next Tuesday I have a free event in Ravonia where I talk about um you know if you're down in the dumps and struggling financially is entrepreneurship actually the the solution or not and um but otherwise like uh another person who listened to this now in the vault organize 12 business owners and I'm going to talk to 12 business owners today so organize something you know get somebody together get us together in a coffee shop uh reach out to me you know I speak internationally I work internationally but I'm not that guy they go oh you are beneath me I'm here to help people because I've been there myself I'm glad you said that because otherwise I'd have something to share about that and you wouldn't be on the show um anyway villainhost.com so it's W-I-L-L-E-M-G-O-U-S.com um you have you got all your events and everything on the website yeah the events not yet I rebuilt my website this uh December but all the contact forms are they reach out to me you have my email address you know drop me a mail get your calendar shorted out yes he says while pointing the finger firmly at himself because on my website I've also got a calendar of upcoming guests that just hasn't quite been finished yet so pot kettle black in all of those things anyway thank you so much for coming in and sharing a little bit on goal setting uh obviously as we said [email protected] get that mind map it's fantastic it explains everything it goes into great detail um and it it will help you you know what if you if you're a little bit lost um just just work at it and see what you can do the best part of this whole thing for me was managing your time your attention and your energy because absolutely forget those three right yes and and one last thing yeah ask yourself when it comes to your own goals what are the three things I need to do today to move one step closer if you just do that every day and you move an inch guess where you will be at the end of the year it's a long game people overestimate the short term and underestimate the long term this is a long game you're not going to solve your problems in a week I've tried it you probably tried it as well it doesn't work and when you look at your crash flow and you go like how am I going to fix it you and I now out of experience no it's going to take at least 90 days to to this is this is not something you can so you just call your back manager and say you know put your helmet on there's a storm coming and just let's weather this but you know focus on the three things that you can do focus on when you have energy focus on your time block it and focus on this and then you'll get there villain thank you so much for coming in and we wish you all the best I'm sure we'll be telling to you again in the not too distant future live long and prosper thank you peace and assets to everybody
